James Tynan

James is the CEO of Startmate a seed fund and accelerator that brings together the best people in Australian startups to support the next wave of founders. James recently returned from the US where his most recent gig was helping scale Khan Academy from YouTube success to the biggest ed-tech organization in the world. Here’s the TL;DR:

  • Former VP of Strategy and Operations at Khan Academy running BD, Marketing, and the ~$8M/yr educator business
  • Created Khan Academy’s BD and Marketing functions where he raised over $40 million in partnerships (e.g. Bank of America, Comcast, Pixar/Disney) created a massive movement (see this NOVA documentary) and built Khan Academy’s brand platform
  • Founded and sold a digital archiving business in the early 2000s, was a McKinsey consultant and GM at NYC-based startup, Purpose
  • Holds a law degree and university medal from UTS
